He viewed the intricacies of the human condition through a lens of deeply connected personal experience, often illuminating the crevices through a stark lens. Mental Hygiene

A Novel

Michael Murphy, a privileged twenty-year-old Southern Californian, has been drafted at the height of the Vietnam War. Avoiding a tour to Vietnam, and having completed training for assignment as a psychological social work technician, Murphy arrives for duty at the Mental Hygiene clinic at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in the spring of 1967.
