Michael Murphy, a privileged twenty-year-old Southern Californian, has been drafted at the height of the Vietnam War.  Murphy and an improbable cast of colleagues band together to manipulate the system and save lives, unaware that nobody escapes unscathed from Mental Hygiene.

Darkly comedic and character rich, Mental Hygiene forges a malevolent, ironic path played against the backdrop of tumultuous social changes that deeply affect the protagonist and the country.  Mental Hygiene chronicles the experience of a young Vietnam era draftee thrust into the upside-down world of military mental health processing at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
